"Amazing Service..."
As a couple with a young boy, we took our youngster to the nearby PGL camp the one weekend, and picked him up the next.
This meant we stayed at the Castle of Brecon Hotel both sides of the week.
The first moment we set foot in the place, we were greeted enthusiastically by the staff on reception, treated as honoured guests and our room reservation was dealt with quickly and efficiently.
We had booked the four-poster bed with the views of the Brecon Beacons, the room did not disappoint. It was spacious, clean, and a breathtaking view of a near-flooding river with wide bay windows to look out of.
The bed was comfortable, the warddrobe nice and large, everything chosen with taste and in keeping with the overall room.
Our only disappointment was the bathroom, it was very 60's, an avocado green suite with a shower that wasn't the most powerful we have ever known. We have since been told that in up-dating and re-doing the Hotel the bathrooms are next on the list.
The food was delicious.... the restaurant immaculate, the staff again attentive and helpful. We were able to try traditional fare, including locally made wine to go with our meal, (which we both enjoyed) and overall this is what cemented our decision to return here the following Friday before picking up our youngster.
In the mornings breakfast was a buffet style, but the food was hot and fresh, something often lacking in buffet style breakfasts, and we both enjoyed full english breakfasts with as much hot strong tea and toast provided by the morning waitress's as we wanted... we are fond of our breakfast...
The following Friday, on arrival we were remembered and greeted like special friends, regular guests. Even the waiter that evening remembered us and was able to return immediately to a discussion we had been having the previous week.
Unfortunately we couldn't have the same room, the hotel was booked out and we had to take a room in the annexe. This, although smaller, was no less clean, the furnishings more than ample and the decor inkeeping with the style of the room. The only disappointment here again was the same bathroom troubles...
During our evening meal, the receptionist personally sought us out to ask if we would like to upgrade our room as a guest had cancelled at the last minute... this we did, and to our amazement when presented with our bill the next day, we were not charged for this move...
Our rooms cost us £99 for the four-poster room with a view - more than worth every penny in our book, and £69 for a room in the annexe, also well worth the money.
